MEDIAVISION: NORDIC HOUSEHOLDS SPEND €280M ANNUALLY ON ILLEGAL IPTV

Nearly 1.2 million households across the Nordic region now have access to illegal IPTV services, spending an estimated €280 million a year, according to new research from Mediavision.

The figure equates to more than €23 million per month, or approximately €760,000 per day. Households using the services report paying an average of around €20 per month.

Mediavision defines illegal IPTV as paid services offering unauthorised access to extensive TV channel packages and content from multiple streaming platforms.

Its spring 2026 survey found that almost one in ten households in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden had access to illegal IPTV. Sweden has the highest number of affected households, at around 465,000.

Penetration is highest in Norway and Denmark, where approximately 12% of households have access to the services. Sweden follows at 10%, while Finland has the lowest level at 5%.

“Close to 1.2 million Nordic households pay for illegal access to TV and streaming content,” said Adrian Grande, Principal Analyst at Mediavision. “Even at a relatively low monthly cost, the combined spending amounts to a sizable market alongside legal services.”

The regional total is lower than in spring 2025, although the trend varies by market. Mediavision said the declines in Sweden and Finland are clear, while changes in Denmark and Norway are not large enough to confirm a decline.

Grande added that, despite progress in some markets, the scale of illegal IPTV remains significant for the Nordic television and streaming sector.
